• Use an American Idol karaoke CD.
• Get each participant an American Idol Contestant Number
• Have each participant sing.
• They each get one song.
• No need for a real microphone. If you have one great! If not, oh well.
• The person who sang last is the next singer’s judge. The rest of the audience votes anonymously with index cards. Yes, you get to vote as do the other parents attending.
• Set a rule. The judge must say something positive and negative. This will help keep any participants from feeling attacked or taking things personally. Everyone gets feedback for being good at some parts and bad at others.
• Make sure everyone knows that this is strictly for fun. It can get ugly when judging is taken personally. You may need to remind them often … especially with the younger “contestants”.
